About Jaguar Land Rover

Few vehicles have the rich heritage of both Land Rover and Jaguar. The first Land Rover was built in 1948 and the first Jaguar even earlier in 1935 - ever since, both names have been universally linked to the very essence of British car manufacturing.

Whether a Jaguar or Land Rover product, the vehicles are among the very best available anywhere in the world and the same high standard is incorporated in the development of its future business leaders.

In 2006 Jaguar Land Rover launched a sector first 14-19 vocational Young Apprenticeship program with an intake of 60 students from the Birmingham and Warwick area. A year later the course was offered on a National basis and today has over 350 students receiving training every year.

The Challenge

As with many training providers Jaguar Land Rover traditionally tracked the progression of its learners manually using spreadsheets but, with interest in Jaguar Land Rover’s 14-16 training program increasing year on year – 350 students in 2009 - keeping records up-to-date became a time consuming and inaccurate process.

With colleges from Exeter to Manchester signing up and taking part in the program, student records were far spread and inaccessible from the head offices without firstly requesting the information and then having it typed out and sent via email – another time consuming process that needed to be eradicated for the program to deliver its full potential.

Jaguar Land Rover needed a solution that could be accessed by all stakeholders, was quick and simple to monitor its students and ensure that the continual expansion of the training program would be successful and easily integrated with new and existing colleges taking part. All information and student records stored on the system also needed to be secure yet easily accessible for all parties involved.

The Solution

Perspective Limited, who specialise in Learner Management Systems and Training Management Solutions recommended a bespoke version of Sunesis to provide a fast and accurate interface for training providers to record all student progress and attendance from a single location.

Sunesis is a unique Training Management System, providing the skills sector with the tools to support the management of learners for Young Apprenticeships, Apprenticeships, Train to Gain, Work Based Learning, NVQ’s and other work based learning, where learner progression management is key to achieving quality standards. Sunesis has been designed in conjunction with sector professionals to link the partners involved in a diverse range of sectors to meet the requirements of the ever evolving distributed learning arena. Information on the progression of learners can be accessed by a simple click of a button enabling training providers and delivery partners to manage apprentices through effective learner-centric tracking of progression against qualifications, frameworks and milestones.

The Training Management System also provides the facility to manage funding, recruitment and statistical reporting.

The Results

Sunesis was implemented in July 2008 and initially trialed in the core of the program before being offered to all colleges taking part, but the positive results of Sunesis were immediately evident. With all information available from a single location and easily accessible via the internet, staff using Sunesis freed up time to spend with the students or working on course material.

Kevin Johns, Operations Manager at Jaguar Land Rover Young Apprenticeship Program, commented: “We did look at a few options before Sunesis but as soon a Perspective demonstrated the product, we knew it was what we needed. To ensure that it suited the entirety of our needs, Perspective created a bespoke version of Sunesis for us which was ready and implemented in a matter of days

The layout is ideal making it extremely easy to navigate and quick to add in new information but one element that we have been particularly pleased with is the fact that it is web-based and, considering that we currently have 15 partnership colleges taking part in our program, it is essential that we have immediate access to student records no matter where they are based, when we introduce Sunesis on a National basis.”

We have also witnessed an increase in student progression and success rates as each student has personal access to their information which in turn, motivates them to hit their own personal targets

Perspective have been extremely helpful throughout the progress and I would highly recommend Sunesis to anyone looking for an easy to use, secure and effective monitoring platform
